An Adjustable Scaffolding Acrospan used in modern construction as a self-supporting horizontal beam for slab formwork. Primarily manufactured from high-grade Mild Steel (MS), it consists of an outer and inner sliding section; the outer member is typically fabricated from 14-gauge MS sheet with a bottom plate of roughly , while the inner section often utilizes a T-angle. To ensure structural integrity, these sections are reinforced with a lattice of 10 mm MS round bars welded between them, providing high resistance to bending and buckling. They are commonly finished with corrosion-resistant paint or hot-dipped galvanization for longevity. In terms of size, Acrow Spans are highly adjustable to suit various room dimensions: the most common "Standard" size extends from 2.36 m to 4.15 m (approx. 8 ft to 14 ft), while "Mini" versions range from 1.75 m to 3.0 m and "Large" versions can reach up to 5.5 m. These units generally weigh between 39 kg and 52 kg depending on the extension length and steel thickness. The primary use of an Acrow Span is to provide a stable, level platform for shuttering plates during the casting of RCC slabs. By spanning the distance between walls or main beams, they eliminate the need for cluttered vertical propping in the center of a room, which saves labor, reduces setup time, and creates an unobstructed workspace below the slab. Additionally, they are used for supporting beam bottoms, lintels, and temporary shoring in bridge and tunnel projects, making them indispensable for efficient and safe concrete molding.
